Practice Veterinary

Practice Veterinary is a web-services application for managing a Veterinary. It includes: Patient Information, Inventory, Invoicing, Boarding, Finance and Management Reports. The user-interface had to be very easy to use for non-technical Veterinary Staff.

The interface makes extensive use of icons in order to present a simple and friendly look and feel.

Key web-pages like "Patient Information" are designed so that the most common "actions" are placed as buttons near the top-right of each page and any "critical" information is diplayed in red. Since a lot of information is required, "at a glance" it is arranged into different zones making it easy to scroll quickly to locate.

Time-sensitive information like "Appointments" is viewed and maintained using a calendar metaphor.

Related information is displayed whenever possible so users don't have to search for information in order to complete a transaction. So for example when adding a "receipt" all the "un-paid invoices" for that customer are also displayed as well as a tab link for "all previous payments".

Primary Navigation, Browsing and Jump-to Drop-downs
When users "Log-In" they need help in deciding what they can do and how. The application "Home Page" contains three main zones: "Go to" describes the Primary Navigation, "Explore" allows browsing of the most common tasks and "I want to" describes the jump-to drop-down menu found at the top right-hand corner of every page that contains all the tasks/actions that can be performed, (e.g. "Add a Receipt") and accessed by a single click from any page.
